Welcome to the NC Bitch!

My Working Vacation to NC February 2008

Welcome to the NC Bitch!

I have been in Asheville North Carolina for 4 days. I am here to baby sit for Max my nephew while my brother and sister in law are in Hawaii. They left yesterday and are returning next Saturday.

My flight over here on Wednesday was terrible…I am usually a pretty good flyer but on both flights I felt sick…and the second one resulted in me puking as soon as I got off the plane.Photobucket

My sister in law picked me up from Charlotte, NC and we made our way to there amazingly beautiful home up in the Asheville Mountains. Prior to this trip I had never been to North Carolina…from what I have seen of it…I am in love! It's gorgeous.

The day after I arrived my sister in law brought me around to show me the lay of the land…we went to the hopping downtown area and she treated to the most amazing pedicure (a belated b-day present). Of course I choose some whore red color for my toes…

We also went to this old book store where I had the most amazing chai latte…starbucks can bite my ass (sorry honey).

We had sushi take-out for dinner that night which was very very very good.

I went to sleep that night and could hear the rain start to fall but it was real loud…I looked out my window and realized it was ice….Ice Storm isn't in a girl from South Louisiana's vocabulary. Anne and Lance where able to leave on time fro there 6 Am flight…but Max's school was closed until 10 AM. …Max still woke u p at 6:15 AM.

So we took it easy I asked him what cartoon would he like to watch…he answered "what are my options" …something about a 4 year old saying that makes me laugh….he decided on curious George after two episodes …the men in the yellow hat and George were wearing on my nerves.

I got him dressed and dropped him off at school it was freezing outside. I stopped at the store and bought me two trash magazines and headed home for some ultimate relaxation.

had two magazines in hand and yes one of them had Mary Kate Olsen on the cover so the fudge what I am a grown up and I can read trash if I want to the other was O magazine and yes Oprah was on the cover.

I got back to the house and decided to take a nice Jacuzzi bath in Anne and Lances bathroom b/c I don't have one at my house and when in Rome…

The Jacuzzi was going along fine until I decided to add bubble bath to it….it was like something out of the cartoons…the bubble took over and I had to surrender.

After the Battle of the Bubbles. I lounged around the house and talked to Ben.

Where was Ben you may ask?

He was in Louisiana his LSAT was the next day after the test he was driving to come meet me. So I gave him more word of encouragement….like "you better pass so I can be married to a rich lawyer and host teas on the weekends"

Photobucket

The rest of the day was pretty uneventful I picked up Max from school and we headed in for the night.

My top 20 symbolizes my favorite kind of movies most of them are simple movies with good stories and great soundtracks…a couple are violent or shoot em ups which I enjoy and would have to make a list separate to include all of them (it would include The Departed ...i love that movie). I really dislike horror movies so they have no place on my list. I am a fan of the musical so a couple of those make appearances.

Harold and Maude will probably forever be my 1 it's the best….so simple and a soundtrack all by my man Cat Stevens (Yusuf now)

Casablanca used to be my 1 and is probably the best movie ever made....": Play it once, Sam. For old times' sake. "

We went to New Orleans in the early evening and had dinner at the Napoleon house. I am in love with this place…I have been a couple of times before but that night it was especially romantic…we drank wine and Ben jokingly proposed again because the moment was so cheesy romantic. Ben had a muffaleta and I had this organic sandwich with sprouts and avocado…to which Ben asked "where's the meat?"…I love my meat and potato boy.

After the napoleon house we tracked over to our favorite haunt the carousel bar in the Hotel Monteleone. It was a chilly night so Ben had an Irish coffee and I had Chambord and Champagne yummo!

Next up we met Rick and Michelle for our double date...we watched There Will Be Blood. The movie left me feeling a bit uneasy in the end…I wasn't sure if I liked it or not it took me at least a nights sleep to start seeing how much I actually liked it. Daniel Day Lewis was amazing and they have great quotable lines….like…

Plainview: If you have a milkshake and I have a milkshake and I have a straw and my straw reaches across the room and starts to drink your milkshake. I drink your milkshake! I drink it up!

No Country for Old Men is still my pick for movie of the year …but DD Lewis is my pick for best actor. So Ben and I have seen all the Oscar nominated movies except Michael Clayton which we will see this week…we also want to see The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and Eastern Promises. Viggo Mortensen's is yummy!

So all and all my pre birthday night out was fun! Thanks Rick and Michelle we loved the double date…next time you guys choose the place and time.

My birthday day celebrations were low key just like I like it. My mom, Ben and I had lunch at La Casa and for dinner Ben cooked steak and home made mashed potatoes. My father in law and mother in law sent me a beautiful arrangement of flowers….thanks guys!

Photobucket

My mom made me a bread pudding instead of a cake….I love that women.

The next day I was leaving for my 13 day adventure to Asheville so I packed and went to sleep after watching a couple of family guys. Happy 26th to me! Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes!!!!

But its time to go…..for a while at least.
I am packing boxes of books for the move…
Where are we going…not sure yet.
Waiting for the letter to tell us our destination for the next three years.
I am glad I have a friend in al this…Ben is the best.
What's life if you never take candy from a stranger, never leave your home and make a life miles and miles away, or just stay stuck motionless.
I will be back in school finishing for finishing sake.
I think home is not what it used to be to me….not my parents home or Bens home in Montegut…
I am ready for a new place…a new home.

I creep through the valleys
And I grope through the woods
'cause I know when I find it my honey
It's gonna make me feel good

I love everything
So don't it make you feel sad
'cause I'll drink to you, my baby
I'll think to that, I'll think to that.

Miles from nowhere
Not a soul in sight
Oh yeah, but it's alright

I have my freedom
I can make my own rules
Oh yeah, the ones that I choose

Small Changes…I can do this. I have many goal I want to accomplish but when I look at them they seem so huge so overwhelming.

But small changes that don't freak my brain out may work.

Now I don't have to tell myself …You have to finish writing that novel…I just agree that once a day I will right one line in my notebook. …If I write more great…but my commitment seems so small that my brain is tricked into believing it doesn't have to make any sacrifices.

The Japanese got it right with this Kaizen method (pronounce pie men)…they use it in most of there big business interactions… making small changes that amount to huge successes.

Life has been so crazy lately that I am on the look out for any kind of method, therapy, deep breathing bull shit I can get. I thought that Karma had already paid me back for all my not so great moments in the past but apparently the boomerang is heading back in my direction.

I have someone in my life right now whose main goal seems to be to make me miserable…….who makes me feel like I am not worth the air I breathe…it's the first time I have ever felt this way ever.. And hey Im the girl who was fired from a nanny position for being to chubby…so I know about being made to feel like shit!!! This is worse.

I am not a bad person……I love, I am compassionate, I give, ………….all I want to do is take Ben and move far far away ……..because I hear running away from your problems is the 1 to make them go away.

So If anyone has room in there basements/ sheds…were coming over…rotfl..actually it more like I am rolling on the floor fighting back tears.

All She wants to do is Dance! Dance!

Every morning I wake up and I feel I have misplaced something….what could it be? I have

my wedding ring on my left hand, my purse is on the dresser, my husband is snoring next to

me….what is it what is this over whelming feeling of something missing something lost ?

Is it that I didn't get to go to my senior prom?
Absolutely not! (pretty in pink reference)

Is it that I dint have enough adventures?
No…many adventures await and many I have already been on.
"I'm going to go to Morocco for one year"

Is it the extra weight I am carrying?
No Buddha Belly and Ghetto Ass still in tow.

Anyway what is it?

I am a nice little house wife giving Ben the steady life while he works to make his dreams come true…Law School and corner office. What is missing>?

And I realize it's a college degree! I have started and quit and college enough times to realize how much I hate the structure of it all…but I still know that my soul and pride will not be content until I have my framed diploma in our study.

What do I want to be when I grow up?

More than anything in my life I want to be a mom…I think its what I was bred for. I am a care giver its my number one good quality…Its got me into a lot of trouble in the past trying to help people who don't want help….it really is a heart breaking role.

But I know what I want my role to be …I want to stay at home with my kids and make cookies, fly kites, play catch, ext…..but it seems like a slap in the face to everyone I tell.

Its always the same thing….they say " we get it you want to be a mom, but what else?" and am I supposed to try and rationalize and answer for this am I supposed to say "that's it just a mom"

So usually I don't care what people think…but this one seems to get to me more than most…so I feel like right now I am making decisions based on what I truly desire and not what's gong to make other people happy or comfortable when they ask me the horrible dreaded question "What do you do?" or "What do you want to do with your life?"

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I have had many jobs in my short lifetime New York Nanny, Employee at TARC, Caregiver for Children w/ Autism, Volunteer Coordinator at Habitat for Humanity, Waitress (very short lived), secretary, Day Care Employee, Camp Counselor, and so on a so forth….they all have been great experiences but there is not one that sounds as good to me as raising my own children.

Rant! Rant! Rant!

Anyway….I guess next time you see me I will be reading Chaucer and working on that degree.

The story of when I went to New York to be a nanny

In October 2002 I decided I wanted an adventure. I had just returned from working

summer camp in California and I was not ready to slip back into my bayou shoes just yet. So I

started to think about different things I could do. I knew I loved working with kids so on a whim

I applied with NY Nannies an online company that helped place nannies with family in NYC and

the surrounding area. Well I was accepted as a nanny and then was interviewed by a couple of

familys but in the end I decided on a family with a 5-month old daughter. The mom was a

psychiatrist and the father owned a tire empire . The had a vacation home in the Berkshires, a

family home in Long Island, and an apartment in the city. I made a year commitment to the

family and moved out east in November 2002. I arrived in Connecticut and was swept away to

the family's vacation home. The family seemed nice enough as we smiled and introduced

ourselves. Every where that we drove along the way to their house looked like a Christmas

village. I was so excited to start my new life as an east coast girl. The next day the mother sent

me to go shopping for some winter clothes for myself . I needed a new coat and some snow

boots. She told me I could use the Mercedes anytime I wanted. I was driving into town by

myself in the Mercedes (sorry previous to this i had no car so i was excited) I rolled all the

windows down even though it was cold and blared Gun and Roses. This Bayou Girl Had never

seen it so good.

I started my job the next day. My duties were yo take care of the baby while the mother

would saw clients. The Baby was great she was a normal 6 month old. I would read to her

we would roll around on the floor. What more is there really?

The first confrontation: The mother approaches me after my first day is finished and says she

doesn't think I am challenging the baby enough. I was confused on how to challenge a 6-month

old.... I was singing, reading, counting, machine. So I smiled and said I would try harder. The

next day I tried harder talking to the baby like she was an adult, drilling those ABC's, really

pushing her to learn all that she could at 6-months old. That day the mother decided that she

did not want to feed her baby breast milk anymore she thought goat milk would be a better fit.

So we drove for 4 hours up a hill to a goat farm were she purchased goat milk. I kept thinking if

my mom could see me now...my mom who was probuably giving us sips of cool-aid at that age.

The Next confrontation: The Mother approached me after a long day of challenging the

baby. She said that she would really appreciate it if I would take out my piercings. I had my

tongue and eye-brow pierced. Now I had told the mother during the interview that I had

piercings and she shrugged it off like it was no big deal...so i was really surprised when she

approached me. I told her I would have to think about it because it was part of who I was. She

told me that she didn't want me to have piercing when we move back to Long Island because it

was very conservative, upscale neighborhood. I though about it all night and then I thought of

my $600.00 a week salary and I decided I could do without my piercings. As i took my tongue

ring out the next morning I cried. I remembered the day I went get it pierced with my friend

who visited from Scotland it was a bonding experience. I went to another day of challenging the

baby as a un-pierced nanny.

Two days latter the Next Confrontation: The mother approached me saying she was

concerned that my hair color was drawing attention to me and the baby in town. Now I have to

admit I am a girl who had had blue, green, pink, and purple hair at one point in my life, but at the

time it was a low key auburn. She was also concerend about the way I was dressing to take care

of the baby...I would wear jeans and a t-shirt or a sweater depending if we were leaving the

house that day. So she took mt to the Polo store (yes I said it the polo store it was like i was

slapping my former self in the face). After an hour i had new preppy wardrobe appropriate

forthe country club...it was like playing dress up. On the way back I stopped at the drug store a

picked up a box of Plain Jane Brown Hair Dye. The next day I woke up un-pierced,in a pink polo

shirt ,wool plaid pink and green skirt, and penny loafers, with brown hair...I was sick to my

stomach all day long. We left for Pittsburgh to spend the weekend at some relatives of the

mother. When we arrived and I was put in a room the size of a very small walk in closet. that

night we had dinner and the bread basket was being passed around. When the basket

approached me. The mother announced that I didn't need any bread and passed it over me. I

turned bright red and after dinner went straight to my room and sobbed. The mother came and

found me and said that she thought I would be much happier if i lost 50 lbs. Well that was the

straw that broke this Cajuns girls back. I told her that this was not working out and i gave her

my two weeks notice.

We drove back to Pittsburgh and they never talked to me. As soon as we arrived they asked

me to leave immediately. I was shocked. I called my mom and she told me that i could not fly

home right now becasue if the price of flights. I would have to wait a week to get a reasonable

rate on a flight. Luckily I had a friends who lived in Connecticut so I called her with my sob story

and she said that I could stay there until I could get a flight. I packed up as much as i could and

the rest of my stuff that I couldn't bring with me I brought to Good Will. . The mother never

talked to me and I didn't get to see the baby before i was rushed out of their home.I was

dropped off at the bus station with three huge suit cases. The father threw them out the car into

the snow and muttered good luck and sped off. (here is were the sad music swells) I was trying

to move my luggage from the piles of snow and then it stated to snow and then everyone... i fell

down into the snow. I had to pay some guy to help me take my luggage into the station for me.

When I arrived in Connecticut my friend took me out and got me drunk ...really really

drunk...she also forced me to eat fried food and dessert. We toasted to my curves...we mourned

for my losses my hair color my piercings. The next day I left a message with the agency

Iworked for so I could formally complain about the family and how I was treated. I was still a

little sad so my friends decided to cheer me up by bringing me to the mall of adult stores. It was

so much fun ,but some were between the harnasses and the handcuffs my phone rings. Its the

nanny agency. So thinking they can see were I am I duck down behind the swings and whips. I

explain to them what happen and how I was treated by the family. In the end they took the

family's side because they have the money...and i was a disappointment because i wasn't a thin

un-pierced Mary Fuckin Poppins. So I spent the next couple of days with my friend we went to

NYC and just had a ball. And then I moved back down the Bayou and I am living happily ever

after.
